I was struck by the way Miwa Matreyek used collage and her own body to build mythology around city spaces. I wanted to do something similar and create a simple, surreal mythology describing my own connection to cities. I decided to create it as a scrolling comic to mimic the flowing, cinematic quality in Matreyek’s work.

About
Alethea Hall
While I have been doing graphic design for small businesses and nonprofits for 10 years, my first love is storytelling. I love creating comics and other works that marry or blur the line between visual art and writing. I’ve done work for April Gloaming Press, Parnassus Books, Left Bank Artists, and The Porch, among others.
Art Wire is an ongoing creative writing fellowship from OZ Arts and The Porch. Each performance season, a cohort of writers is selected via application to attend a variety of OZ Arts presentations and respond to each work through original writing that is personal, playful, and deeply engaged.

Throughout the season, original Art Wire writings will be added to this website, showcasing the inspiration and interpretations captured by this year's cohort.
